  At the February 21, 2023 City Council Meeting, Council adopted a Resolution terminating the local emergency and related COVID-19 resolutions and ordinances, effective February 28, 2023. They also extended existing temporary outdoor business permits and outdoor heaters on the wharves until December 31, 2023. The City of Monterey declared a local COVID-19 emergency on March 14, 2020, and it lasted 1,082 days. For details, please reference these resources:

  The City of Monterey is partnering with the California Department of Public Health to host a second COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic on Friday, November 4th at Fire Station 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is now open.

  Fire Station 13 is located in the Villa Del Monte Neighborhood, 401 Del Vina Avenue, in Monterey.

  This clinic will offer:

  • Pediatric Moderna for primary series vaccinations and boosters (for those eligible) for those 6 months through 11 years old
  • Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson for primary series vaccinations and updated boosters (for those eligible) for those 12 years and older

  Sep. 7, 2022: Omicron boosters - Do I need one and if so, when?

  The City of Monterey continues to be proactive monitoring the local COVID-19 case numbers and acting accordingly, both on City Hall campus to keep our staff as healthy as possible, and in the community, to provide latest CDC, CDPH, and Monterey County Health Department guidelines and recommendations. Our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is still on active status, and our EOC team is continuing an active role in this process.

  • Week of March 28, 2022: On March 29 the CDC updated COVID-19 booster shot guidance for several groups. The CDC updated its recommendations to allow certain immunocompromised individuals and people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at least four months ago to be eligible for another mRNA booster to increase their protection against severe disease from COVID-19. For those who qualify and had the JJ vaccine, they can get a Moderna or Pfizer booster. Also see the California SMARTER Plan - we still may have additional surges of positive cases due to subvariants of the virus. We are not yet at an endemic phase.
    
  • Week of March 7, 2022: The U.S. government is offering additional free COVID-19 at-home test kits. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order two sets of four free at-home COVID-19 tests.   VACCINATION CLINICS

  The Monterey Fire Department continues vaccination clinics every Tuesday from 4 pm - 6 pm at the Farmer's Market on Alvarado Street. They offer all three types of vaccinations (Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen, and boosters.)

  LATEST NEWS

  • California has new guidelines if you need to isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19.
  • The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has extended the statewide indoor masking requirement one month, through February 15, 2022. Masks must be worn in all indoor public places regardless of vaccine status.

  Monterey County has enacted an indoor mask mandate, which requires all residents, both in cities and unincorporated areas, to wear facial coverings indoors with some exemptions:

  • When people are in their own homes
  • If alone or with members of their household in a closed room, office or vehicle
  • When taking part in an activity where masks cannot be worn such as eating or swimming
  • Where a mask would impede a medical or cosmetic procedure
  • At meetings or gatherings where all vaccinated persons show proof of vaccination and unvaccinated persons wear face coverings at all times other than when eating or drinking.

  The mandate went into effect on November 5, 2021.   Effective July 30 until further notice, face coverings are required to enter City Hall offices, library and community centers, regardless of vaccination status. (Except persons under two years old, persons with a medical condition, mental health condition or disability that prevents wearing a mask)
